Straight thoughts 25

March 20, 2000

The message sent by the Federal Liberals this weekend, supporting marriage as 'the union between one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others' is a jewel of political strategy.

Since a similar resolution was recently passed by the Canadian Parliament, they needed to align themselves with the majority of Canadians (that's the necessary first step in the Liberal dance). In this way, Liberal candidates will be able to quote this resolution at election time and satisfy their 'religious' friends.

Then they are going to pass Bill C-23 that will modify 68 Laws to replace the term 'marriage' with 'conjugal relationship' and redefine the term 'spouse'. In this way they will maintain 'marriage' only as a concept, with no practical repercussions in Law, and satisfy the media and their homosexual activist friends (that's the required element of the Liberal dance).
