Straight thoughts 24

Mike Harris is again fiddling with the school system. The question of whether teachers should work extra time should be settled by schools, teachers and parents, not by government bureaucrats. In a "Parental Choice" system, where parents would direct their education vouchers to a school of their choice, teachers would work, earn and cooperate with parents according to their skills and ambition.

Free enterprise (demand of good teachers among public, private and independent schools) is what will drive schools, teachers and students to excellence. Not government-imposed regulations and threats.

After a few years in power, Mike Harris seems to have fallen into the socialist traps of centralization, regulation, imposition and government-set salaries.
